- About
Bridging Lanka is a grassroots, Australian-registered charity working to bridge ethnic, religious, and geographic divides through community-led development in Sri Lanka.
Established in 2010, we deliver holistic, place-based programs in impoverished communities – making clear impact in our focus areas of early childhood education, youth development, women’s empowerment, environmental protection and animal welfare.
We seek support from donors to develop and expand high-impact, low-cost initiatives that create long-term, locally owned change.
Sri Lanka's post-conflict regions particularly Mannar continue to face:
- Persistent poverty and unemployment among war-affected populations
- Weak access to education and livelihood opportunities
- Environmental degradation affecting agriculture and health
- Persisting ethnic and social divisions
- Limited institutional reach in remote communities
These challenges are interconnected - Bridging Lanka adopts a holistic, grassroots model that integrates development with ongoing consultation with key local stakeholders involved in driving change within their communities.
We’ve delivered 120+ cost-effective projects with low overheads, strong volunteer engagement and high-value outcomes. Fundraising provides direct support to:
- War-affected families
- Youth and children
- Women and vulnerable groups
- Rural and remote communities
Key outcomes:
- Increased household incomes
- Improved access to vocational training and jobs
- Reduction in youth substance use and violence
- Enhanced environmental sustainability
- Increased mental and physical health
- Young people transformed into leaders who now head our key programs
